Quick answer: TrendSpider added OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra to its Sidekick AI assistant on October 9, 2026, but only on the paid Sidekick Plus and Max plans. Plus costs $129 a month for 300 messages and Max costs $349 a month for 1,000, per TrendSpider’s help center. TrendSpider makes no claim that Astra produces better trades, and it still recommends Claude for agentic coding.
Key facts
- Announced: October 9, 2026, on the TrendSpider blog.
- Who gets it: “GPT-6 Astra is available on Plus and Max Sidekick plans.”
- Free allowance: every TrendSpider account includes 25 Sidekick messages a month. Those do not include Astra.
- Paid tiers (help center, checked October 12): Basic 100 messages at $49 a month, Plus 300 at $129, Max 1,000 at $349.
- Coding: TrendSpider says “Claude remains Sidekick’s recommended model for agentic coding.”
- Execution: saved strategies run “with no ongoing AI usage.”
- Performance claims: none.
What did TrendSpider add on October 9?
TrendSpider made GPT-6 Astra a selectable model inside Sidekick, its built-in AI research assistant. This is not a chatbot sitting next to a chart. Sidekick is wired into the platform’s own data, so the model can read what is on your screen and pull from TrendSpider’s datasets directly.
It is the second GPT-6 Astra trading story on our desk in a week. On October 8 we covered how Jump Trading uses Astra agents for research, with human review before anything touches a live order. Same model, very different deployment. Jump is a quant firm with a review gate. TrendSpider is putting the model in front of retail traders.
What can Astra actually see inside TrendSpider?

According to TrendSpider’s announcement, Astra inside Sidekick can work with:
- Live charts, including open indicators, drawings and timeframe
- Fundamentals down to segment and product-level data
- Earnings call transcripts, searchable across the database
- SEC filings, insider transactions and government trades
- Real-time prices, options activity, analyst ratings and news
- Live portfolio positions, sizes and P&L through a broker connection
- Strategies and backtests, which Sidekick can build, run in the Strategy Tester and interpret
That last item is the one bot builders should care about. Sidekick can draft a strategy, run it and explain the results. That is a lot of leverage in one prompt, and a lot of room for a confident wrong answer.
Which Sidekick plans get GPT-6 Astra, and what do they cost?
| Sidekick plan | Messages per month | Price | GPT-6 Astra |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free (every account) | 25 | Included | No |
| Basic | 100 | $49/month | No |
| Plus | 300 | $129/month | Yes |
| Max | 1,000 | $349/month | Yes |
Prices and message counts come from TrendSpider’s add-ons help page, checked October 12, 2026. Tier access for Astra comes from the October 9 announcement. The help page’s model list did not yet name Astra when we checked, so confirm at checkout.
A message budget is a research budget. Multi-stock comparisons burn several turns each. Count your real usage for two weeks before you pick a tier.
Does a better model mean better trades?

TrendSpider does not say it does, and that restraint is worth noticing. The announcement includes no win rate, no return figure and no “Astra users outperformed” line. Its own caveat reads: “A backtest shows how a strategy would have performed historically, not how it will perform going forward.”
The more useful detail is buried lower. Saved strategies “run natively in TrendSpider as a strategy bot or entry and exit alerts with no ongoing AI usage.”
That separation is the right design. A language model is a research assistant. It can give slightly different answers to the same question on different days. A saved strategy is deterministic: same rules, same inputs, same output. Use the model to find and frame an idea. Use fixed rules to execute it. Keeping a model out of the execution path is how you avoid adding randomness to the one step that should have none. Our guide to AI trading agent risks covers why.
How should bot builders test Astra before paying?
Run your own comparison in an afternoon. Save four prompts as plain text so they never drift:
- Multi-stock research: five tickers in one sector, compared on revenue trend, margin direction and one named risk from the latest filing.
- Scanner build: describe a setup in words and ask Sidekick to build the scan.
- Indicator code: a custom indicator with a stated formula. Check that the code computes it.
- Portfolio check: concentration, correlation and the single largest unhedged exposure.
Run each on Astra and on Claude inside Sidekick, same day. Score two things only: factual accuracy against a source you can check, and reproducibility when you ask the identical question an hour later. Do not score backtest return. A prettier equity curve tells you nothing about next month, and look-ahead bias hides easily in AI-built backtests.
What should investors watch next?
- TrendSpider’s help center: whether the Plus and Max model lists are updated to name GPT-6 Astra.
- Independent tests: as of October 12, 2026, we found no independent accuracy or performance test of Astra inside Sidekick.
- Your billing page: confirm the price and model access at checkout before you build a workflow on it.
Our take
TrendSpider shipped a real capability and described it honestly. Wiring a frontier model into charts, filings, transcripts and live positions is useful for research. It is not an edge on its own.
The traders who will get value here already have a process. The model makes that process cheaper and faster to run. It will not fix position sizing, exit rules or discipline.
Practical next step: write down the three questions you ask the market most often. If Astra answers those faster and more accurately than what you use now, the Plus tier may pay for itself. If you cannot name three, the problem is upstream of the tool.
