The short answer, from FullStack Alpha: Sometimes, and rarely the way the ads suggest. In Nof1’s Alpha Arena, six leading AI models each traded $10,000 of real money in late 2025 and four finished with losses. A study of Brazilian day traders found that 97% of those who kept at it for 300 days or more lost money. FullStack Alpha’s view: a bot executes a strategy fast and without emotion. It does not create an edge that is not already there.

Nof1 Alpha Arena

What it is: A live contest where AI models trade real money
Season 1: October 18 to November 3, 2025
Official site: nof1.ai
The cleanest public test we know of. Nof1 gave six AI models $10,000 each in real money to trade crypto perpetual futures on Hyperliquid. Qwen3 Max and DeepSeek finished ahead. Claude Sonnet 4.5, Gemini 2.5 Pro, Grok 4 and GPT-5 all finished below where they started, with GPT-5 ending near $4,100. Same market, same money, wildly different results.

Trade Ideas (Holly AI)

What it claims: AI selected strategies for each session
Price for Holly: $189 a month billed yearly
Official site: trade-ideas.com
Holly is one of the longest running retail AI trading engines, and it is still streaky. Under an r/etrade post asking how accurate it is, one user replied: “The last couple of weeks have been rough for Holly.” That is what real AI trading looks like: useful, uneven and never guaranteed.

StockHero

What it claims: Marketplace bots with high win rates
How to check: Run the bot on StockHero paper trading first
Official site: stockhero.ai
StockHero markets bots with win rate badges. Our editorial desk’s advice is to read past them. A win rate says nothing about the size of the losses, and rented marketplace bots rarely come with a full live record you can audit.

Tickeron

What it claims: AI robots with strong returns
Status of those returns: Vendor claims, not audited
Official site: tickeron.com
Tickeron advertises strong results for its AI robots. In FullStack Alpha’s August 2026 Reddit scan, 6 of the 7 Tickeron mentions we found were promotional. That is a thin foundation for trust, so verify any robot on paper.

Composer by SoFi

What it claims: Strategies you can backtest and automate
Watch for: Overfitting
Official site: composer.trade
Composer shows a backtest for every strategy, which is useful and dangerous at the same time. A strategy tuned until its backtest looks perfect is the textbook case of overfitting. One long time user put the honest expectation on r/ComposerTrade: “Some will win, some will lose.”

Robinhood Agents

What it claims: AI agents that trade stocks, options and crypto for you
Adoption: 150,000+ agentic accounts, per Robinhood in September 2026
Official site: robinhood.com
Robinhood said more than 150,000 agentic accounts had been opened by its September 29, 2026 HOOD Summit. That is adoption, not performance. We have not seen published results, so treat social media screenshots as anecdotes.

Autopilot

What it claims: Copy portfolios of well known investors
Reddit sentiment: Mixed to negative in threads we reviewed
Official site: joinautopilot.com
Autopilot copies portfolios, including ones built from public filings, into your brokerage account. The lag is the problem: public disclosures arrive days or weeks after the original trade. One user posted a $1 million portfolio update. Others wrote that it “felt like a scam” and that it “charges an insane amount.” By the time a copied trade reaches you, it is old news.

What “works” should mean
Before you believe any result, check it against four tests:
- Is it live or backtested? A backtest is a hypothesis. A live record is evidence.
- Does it include costs? Commissions, data fees, spreads, and slippage all come out of the return.
- How deep was the drawdown? A 30 percent gain with a 50 percent drop along the way is not a strategy most people can hold.
- How long is the record? A few good months can be luck. A few years through different markets means more.
Why backtests flatter bots
Most backtests are built on the same data used to design the strategy. That produces three common errors:
- Overfitting. The rules fit the past so tightly they fail on anything new.
- Look ahead bias. The test uses information the bot could not have had at the time.
- Frictionless fills. Every order fills at the perfect price, which never happens live.
Our Backtesting guides show how to test a strategy the honest way, and Why Trading Bots Fail covers what happens when you skip it.
How to read a bot’s marketing
- Win rate alone means little. Ask for average win, average loss, and max drawdown.
- A perfect equity curve is a red flag. Real curves are messy.
- “Guaranteed” anything is a scam signal. No legitimate platform promises returns. See AI Trading Bot Scams.
What we look for in testing
Every bot we review is scored on signal quality and transparency, among five pillars, and every review states whether results came from a live account, a paper account, or documentation only. Read the method on How We Test, then browse the scored AI Trading Bot Reviews.
The traders who do well with bots tend to share one habit. They treat the bot as a process to test, not a product to trust.

But in reality the buy and sell orders never get filled at lower prices than the chart suggests
App Store review of the Composer by SoFi iPhone app, September 2026. Quoted as posted.
Backtest lines assume ideal fills. Live orders pay the spread and slippage. Subtract a realistic cost from every trade in the backtest and see if the edge survives.

Healthy doubt. A strategy is a guess until it wins on data you never tuned it on. Hold back the most recent year, test once, and accept the result.

That is the honest answer to this whole category. AI trading tools work best as research filters with your rules on top. None of them works as a money printer.

Our take
The AI trading bot industry has a burden of proof problem, and it keeps handing that burden to you. Every smooth equity curve, every win rate above 80 percent, every testimonial with a sports car in the background is an invitation to stop asking questions. Keep asking. Live or backtested? Costs in or out? How deep was the worst drawdown? If a seller cannot answer those three in plain English, you already have your answer.
Quick answers
Can you make money with AI trading bots?
Some traders do, and many lose money. A bot only executes a strategy, so profit depends on whether that strategy has an edge after costs. Anyone showing you guaranteed profits is selling something. Judge a bot on live, dated results, not screenshots.
What is the success rate of AI trading bots?
There is no reliable industry wide success rate, and figures quoted in ads are rarely verifiable. Look instead at a specific bot’s live record: how long it ran, the drawdowns, the costs included, and whether results come from real accounts or backtests.
Do AI trading bots work in every market?
No. Most bots are built for a type of market. Trend following bots can struggle when prices chop sideways, and mean reversion bots can get hurt in strong trends. Check how a bot performed across different market conditions, not just the last few months.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do AI trading bots actually work?
They can execute a strategy faster and more consistently than a person. Whether that strategy makes money is a separate question, and no bot answers it for you. Judge the strategy and the evidence, not the software.
Why do backtest results look better than live trading?
Backtests often ignore slippage, partial fills, and data the strategy could not have known at the time. Live trading includes all of it. A gap between the two is normal. A huge gap is a warning.
Is a high win rate good?
Not on its own. A bot can win 90 percent of trades and still lose money if the losses are much bigger than the wins. Look at average win, average loss, and drawdown together.
